The British Columbia Environment Industry Association’s BEST Conference attracts environmental professionals every May for two days of technical sessions, networking opportunities, and a sponsor exhibition.  Conference registration includes a welcoming reception, technical sessions, keynote presentations, an off-site networking reception, and all meals and coffee breaks.

This year’s featured guests are:

  • Dr. Judith Sayers was the elected Chief of the Hupacasath First Nation (located in Port Alberni, BC) for 14 years and the Chief Negotiator for 15 years. In her role as Chief, she focused on capacity building, sustainable development and restoring and rehabilitating Hupacasath territory. Judith is an adjunct professor to the Environmental Studies Department at UVIC.
  • Dr. Lisa Skumatz is an economist with more than 30 years of experience in solid waste policy and program design, evaluation, and modeling. Lisa is widely known for her expertise in “best practices” and quantities policy, program, and funding work, designed to identify effective and cost-effective sustainability initiatives. Lisa has published more than 150 well-cited papers and articles in solid waste, and has won two national “Lifetime Achievement” awards for her innovative work in solid waste (from SWANA and NRC).
