The speakers for the event have been confirmed –  Graham Knox (Ministry of the Environment), Michael Lowry (Western Canada Marine Response Corporation) and Lyle Fairley (Department of National Defence). BIOS

Lyle Fairley is Marine Environmental Emergency Response Officer for the Queen’s Harbour Master (Esquimalt).   He is responsible for managing coastal oil spills on behalf of Maritime Forces Pacific and National Defence.  Lyle has worked in the environmental industry since graduating from the University of Victoria in 1997.

Graham Knox is the Director of the Environmental Emergency Program for the BC Ministry of Environment, which leads the province’s planning and response for oil, hazardous materials and other types of spills.  Graham has worked for the Ministry of Environment since 2001, starting with the province’s Contaminated Sites Program and assuming leadership of the Environmental Emergency Program in 2006.  Graham serves as the coordinating committee member for British Columbia on the Pacific States / British Columbia Oil Spill Task Force.  Graham’s academic background includes a MA in Emergency and Disaster Management, a BA in Geography and Political Science, and he is a certified hazardous materials specialist.  Graham has served as a search and rescue instructor for the Justice Institute of BC and in a number of roles with the BC Search and Rescue Association. When not dealing with spills Graham can be found sea kayaking the coast or exploring the backcountry of BC with friends and family.
Michael Lowry is Communications Manager for Western Canada Marine Response Corporation. He is a strategic communications and public relations consultant with more than 10 years’ experience in domestic and international settings across the private, public and not-for-profit sectors. He has designed and developed successful communication campaigns for some of BC’s most influential organizations, including Harbour Air, Pacific Blue Cross and Columbia Power. Michael has a BA in Communications from the University of Calgary and a B.Sc. in Politics and International Relations from the London School of Economics.
