Ministry of Labour: BCEIA Member feedback requested on asbestos regulation changes
NOVEMBER 30, 2017 – The Cross-Ministry Asbestos Working Group has been mandated “to identify, review and report on outstanding risks that asbestos poses for British Columbians and the environment and on additional strategies and initiatives that the British Columbia government and its agencies could undertake to further protect people and the environment from the dangers of asbestos.”
The Working Group is currently undertaking consultations with stakeholders and British Columbians to undertsand views on the issues people face with respect to the safe use, handling, abatement and disposal of asbestos, and on how these issues can best be addressed. This engagement was announced on November 6th (https://news.gov.bc.ca/releases/2017LBR0006-001857), and will be continuing over the next few weeks.
The Working Group believes this engagement is of importance to the BCEIA and its members and requests your feedback. In order to participate by making a formal or informal written submission, please refer to these links on the Government of British Columbia’s public engagement website.

The second is a short paper that provides some background and context on the Working Group and on the topics that the Working Group has identified for discussion. That said, the Working Group would be very interested in any other issues or topics that your association might like to raise.
Alternatively, if you or members of your organization have any issues that you would like to discuss with the Working Group, please do not hesitate to contact John Blakely, Executive Director, Labour Policy and Legislation, directly, either by email or by phone.
