Ministry of the Environment: Regional Background Groundwater Concentration Estimates

SEPTEMBER 25, 2018 – The Ministry of Environment and Climate Change Strategy has established regional background groundwater concentrations for select inorganic substances (arsenic, lithium, selenium, vanadium and uranium) for three regions in British Columbia.  The details are presented in Technical Bulletin #3 – Regional Background Concentrations for Select Inorganic Substances in Groundwater.

The ministry will be reviewing Protocol 9 – Determining Background Groundwater Quality over the coming months to update the protocol and provide a consolidated suite of substances for which regional background concentrations will be available. Regional background concentrations contained in Technical Bulletin #3 will be incorporated into the updated version of Protocol 9.
