Wage Subsidy Program to Hire Environmental Students
ECO Canada funding to hire co-op students from KPU
Eco Canada’s co-op program offers wage subsidy of up to 50% (to a maximum of $5,000) to employers hiring students in an environmental role. Winter applications will be accepted by ECO Canada from October 15th to November 15th for January semester work terms. To learn more and or to apply visit ECO Funding.
Key points for ECO program eligibility:
- Offer a full-time co-operative education position (min of 30 hours a week for 12-16 weeks)
- Provide an environment-related position in science, technology, engineering or mathematics
- Plan to hire a new employee (the Co-op student cannot be an existing employee)
- Your company must be Canadian owned, Canadian subsidiary, Municipal Government Department, or Provincial Government Department
EPT students at KPU receive hands-on training which equips them with working knowledge of physical and life sciences including; general biology, ecology, toxicology, chemistry, physics, and statistics. Specific topics covered by the program include:
- Water and soil field sampling
- Solid, liquid and air treatment methods
- Hazardous goods and waste handling methods
- WHMIS implementation and compliance evaluation
- Emergency planning and spill response methods
- Recycling and waste minimization program design
- Environmental issues analysis
- Written and oral presentation skills
- Computer software competency
