In Memoriam: David Rogers, BCHAZMAT Management Ltd.

DECEMBER 27, 2018 – On behalf of the executive, board and staff of the BCEIA we regretfully inform you that our former director, friend and colleague David Rogers has passed away.  Dave was a long term director of the BCEIA and served the board in many capacities including chair of the hazardous waste and other committees.  Dave tirelessly gave his time, mentorship, energy and friendship to many of us in the industry.  Dave was the founder of BC Hazmat, an instructor at UVIC and industry partner to many.

Dave was provincially recognized as an expert in hazardous waste management and emergency response, and federally recognized as an expert in the Transportation of Dangerous Goods. He wore many hats and his roles included Senior Safety / HazMat Instructor, Safety Auditor, EPA Certified Building Inspector and Senior Incident Commander.

He taught Environmental Safety Programs for over 30 years. As well as his role with BC HAZMAT Management Ltd., he was an Instructor at the University of Victoria teaching Health Protection Technology and Hazardous Waste Management as part of the Continuing Education Diploma program in Occupational Health and Safety. Dave was instrumental in curriculum development for these and many other related courses.

Dave was actively involved with many organizations including the BC Fire Chiefs Association, Saanich Peninsula Chamber of Commerce (Past President), Better Business Bureau (Board member) and was Chair of the Hazardous Waste Committee for the BCEIA (2006 – 2016). He is remembered with great fondness and will be missed by many. We extend our deepest condolences to his wife, Rebecca, and their family, friends and colleagues.
