BCEIA Announces David Rogers Memorial Scholarship
David Rogers Memorial Scholarship to be awarded to a high school student pursuing Environmental Studies
Late last year, the BC environment industry lost a friend and mentor.
Beloved by many, David Rogers was a long–term director of the BCEIA and served the board in many capacities including as chair of the hazardous waste committee. The founder of BC Hazmat, an instructor at UVIC and colleague to many, Dave tirelessly gave his time, energy and friendship to many in the industry. Professionally Dave was recognized as an expert in hazardous waste management and emergency response, as well as in the transportation of dangerous goods. He wore many hats and his roles included Senior Safety / HazMat Instructor, Safety Auditor, EPA Certified Building Inspector and Senior Incident Commander.
The BCEIA, its board, our members, and the environmental community at large, knew that Dave was passionate about education and making a difference in the communities he so readily served. He taught Environmental Safety Programs for over 30 years and was instrumental in curriculum development for these and many other related courses. In recognition of Dave’s many contributions, the BCEIA has renamed our secondary school scholarship, the David Rogers Memorial Scholarship. Its inaugural recipient – a deserving and motivated high school student pursuing Environmental Studies in British Columbia – will be will be announced at BEST 2019.
