The 2022-23 Declaration Act Report: BC’s Annual Report on Meetings Its UN Declaration Objectives

The Province of British Columbia is the first government in Canada to release an action plan dedicated to implementing the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples and has provided detailed reporting about its progress since its inaugural report in 2020. The reports are developed in consultation and co-operation with Indigenous Peoples in B.C. and publicly released by June 30 each year.

The 2022-2023 Declaration Act Annual Report is the first since the launch of the Declaration Act Action Plan in 2022 and details the province’s progress on the 89 actions committed to implement over the next five years. The plan includes actions in the areas of self-determination and self-government, rights and title, ending anti-Indigenous racism, and enhancing social, cultural and economic well-being for Indigenous Peoples. In year one, 32 actions are completed or underway.
