Support of regulating Environmental Professionals (EP’s) in BC

This letter has been prepared to confirm British Columbia Environment Industry Association’s (BCEIA) position fully supporting the efforts of ECO Canada in establishing a process to ensure Environmental Professionals (EP’s) are regulated in BC under the Professional Governance Act.

BCEIA is British Columbia’s longest running professional environmental business association, dedicated to serving member companies that operate in the many sectors related to environmental stewardship and sustainable development. You can learn more about our organization here: https://bceia.com/

Within our membership, there are diverse professionals from many different academic backgrounds. We strongly believe that professionals addressing environmental issues in our province should be regulated, and expanding the types of certifications regulated in BC will give the public greater access to competent people operating in the public’s best interest. Many of the individuals that are part of our network have Environmental Science backgrounds that are not adequately served by the existing professional organizations and/or regulatory bodies in BC. Environmental Scientists have interdisciplinary backgrounds and are essential in protecting the public from harm and providing sound advice alongside other competent professionals serving the environment and natural resources areas.

Please don’t hesitate to contact me if you wish to discuss further.

Yours sincerely,

David Kettlewell, M.Sc., P.Geo, CSAP
President, British Columbia Environment Industry Association
