Hemmera Recognized as One of Canada’s Top Employers for 2017

BCEIA Member recognized in two national competitions

Burnaby, BC – Hemmera Envirochem Inc. (Hemmera) is pleased to announce that our firm has been recognized by Mediacorp Canada Inc. as one of Canada’s Top Small and Medium Employers for the second straight year, and is one of Canada’s Greenest Employers for the first time. These annual, high-profile competitions recognize:

  • The nation’s best places to work – the small and medium-sized enterprises (SME) that lead their industries in attracting and retaining employees (Canada’s Top Small and Medium Employers)
  • Employers that lead the nation in creating a culture of environmental awareness (Canada’s Greenest Employers)

“We are thrilled to be named a top employer for the second year in a row. We are also very excited about being one of Canada’s Greenest Employers,” says Paul Hemsley, Hemmera’s President and founder. “As a national environmental consulting firm, we have always taken our role as environmental stewards very seriously, and I am thankful to our employees across Canada for continuing to grow, learn, and live The Hemmera Way, everyday.”

Hemmera’s unique culture is defined by The Hemmera Way, a collective way of thinking that defines our employees’ behaviours, actions, attitudes, and approach to everything we do. The Hemmera Way differentiates us from other firms by the way we practice Hemmera’s collective values of being people based, business focused, and values driven while delivering performance excellence to our clients and projects. Since our firm’s inception, reducing our environmental impact has always been a cornerstone of our values-driven approach to conducting our business and serving our clients.

The 2017 Top SME winners were evaluated by the editors of Canada’s Top 100 Employers using the same eight criteria as the national competition: Physical Workplace; Work Atmosphere and Social; Health, Financial, and Family Benefits; Vacation and Time Off; Employee Communications; Performance Management; Training and Skills Development; and Community Involvement. Employers are compared to other organizations in their field to determine which firms offer the most progressive and forward-thinking programs. Hemmera’s leadership training program and employee performance initiatives such as long-service awards and peer-to-peer recognition awards are some of the reasons why Hemmera was selected as a Top SME employer.

This year’s Greenest Employers were selected according to four key factors: unique environmental initiatives or program development; success in reducing their own environmental footprint; employee involvement in these programs, including individual contribution of unique skills; and the success of environmental initiatives in connecting to the employer’s public identity to attract new people who share the same values. Some of the reasons why Hemmera was selected as one of Canada’s Greenest Employers include having an employee-led Environment Committee, providing a range of commuter amenities, delivering an environmental orientation program for new staff, and participating in ongoing green community initiatives.
