BCEIA Indigenous Film Screening – The Spirit Who Swims
in commemoration of National Day for Truth & Reconciliation

Thank you to everyone that joined us for the BCEIA’s special screening of The Spirit Who Swims, a 2024 BC Environmental Film Festival selection. The virtual and in-person screenings received a wonderful response and we are excited to share that proceeds from the event fully funded the BCEIA’s Annual Indigenous Scholarships program this year!

A special thank you goes out to our guest speakers who came a great distance to share their insights with us. Filmmaker Bev Sellars, former three-term chief of the Xat’sull (Soda Creek) First Nation and best selling author of They Called Me Number One (2013) and Price Paid: The Fight for First Nations Survival (2016) joined us from William Lake, BC. Greg Witzky, who provided an introduction and blessing to begin the evening, is a member of Cstelnec’ (Adams Lake) Indian Band and Executive Director for the Fraser Salmon Management Council (FSMC), which represents 76 First Nations working together in salmon stewardship across BC. We are grateful for their perspectives, and recognize the effort, time, and travel they made to educate and share with us on National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.
